Privacy

There is no account to make, nothing to log in to, and no analytics running. This page says exactly what that leaves.

The short version

Link to NetEra does not ask who you are and has no way to find out. There is no sign-up, no login, no advertising, no analytics and no cookies of any kind: the site
never writes one. What the site remembers about you is held by your own browser and
never sent anywhere.

What is stored in your browser

Your progress, preferences and saved articles are kept in your browser’s
localStorage. This is not a cookie: it is never attached to a request, so it
never reaches this server or anyone else’s. It stays on the one device, in the one
browser, until you clear it.

WhatWhy
ltn_themeWhether you chose light or dark

ltn_review_queueQuestions due to come back to you
ltn_daily_streak, ltn_challenge_logPractice streak and weekly challenge score
ltn_quiz_rotationWhich block of questions you are currently on, so a page reload shows the same one rather than reshuffling
ltn:ports-protocols:history:…, ltn:ports-protocols:goal:…Your Ports & Protocols scores and any target you set, per drill length and level
ltn:subnet-trainer:history:…, ltn:subnet-trainer:goal:…Your Subnet Trainer scores and any target you set, per drill length and level
ltn_roadmapYour roadmap answers: knowledge level, goal, role, and your level-check results
ltn_interview_marksWhich interview questions you marked yourself confident on, or as needing work
ltn:subnet-speed:history:…Your own past Subnetting Speed Test runs
ltn_wc:…Your progress on the Weekly Challenge: your changes, time, hints and score for each week
ltn_faultlab, ltn_wc:lab…Your level in the Host A Can’t Reach Host B lab, and the network you are fixing, so a reload brings it back
ltn_tcplabYour level in the TCP Three-Way Handshake lab and how far through the round you are
ltn:probeThe last host you typed into a probe tool, so the field is not empty next time

Clearing site data for this domain removes all of it. Nothing is backed up, so that is
permanent, which is also why the site never presents this data as an account.

What leaves your browser

Some tools cannot work without sending something somewhere. Each one only sends what you
typed into it, and only when you press the button:

  • DNS Lookup and the home page shell query dns.google and
cloudflare-dns.com over DNS-over-HTTPS. They see the name you looked up and your IP address.
  • ASN Lookup and WHOIS queries go to rdap.org.
  • Ping, Traceroute, MTR and HTTP Server Test run on the
    Globalping probe network via
api.globalping.io. The host you enter is sent to them and to whichever probe runs the test.

Those services are not run by this site and have their own privacy practices. Nothing
identifying you is added to any of these requests, but an IP address is unavoidable in any internet request: that is what makes the reply able to find you.

Every other tool runs entirely in your browser and sends nothing anywhere. That includes MAC / OUI Lookup: the IEEE list of hardware makers is part of this site, so the address you type never leaves your device.

Sharing

The Share button opens WhatsApp, LinkedIn, X, Reddit or your mail client with a link
filled in. No script from any of those companies runs on this site, and none of them
learns anything until you actually choose one.

Children

The site is aimed at people studying networking, and collects nothing from anyone, so it holds no information about children any more than it does about adults.

Changes

If what the site does changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves.
