Static vs dynamic routing
A static route is a fact you type: “to reach that network, go there.” It never lies and never adapts. Dynamic routing protocols like OSPF and BGP let routers tell each other what they can reach and reroute around failures at machine speed.
Small, stable networks love static routes for their simplicity; everything else runs protocols. The lesson gives you the decision rule and the failure stories behind it.
